Below is a sample job reference list that I use all the time and recommend to my customers. It’s very important to list job references who have direct knowledge of your past job performance. 

If you have to, you can always go beyond your immediate supervisor and include past or present co-workers, subordinates, customers, suppliers, members of trade associations, or anyone else who can praise your work. 

Avoid using relatives or friends for personal references because they have no direct knowledge of your performance on the job. Most importantly – never list a job reference until you have gained that person’s permission to do so.
