55 Years Old and Working the same job for 15 years and you quit to take time off
So you’ve been working a job and it does not matter for how long, but for what ever reason things were not working out so you decided to take a year or two off. There is nothing wrong with that.
But what do you tell prospective interviewers what you were doing for the last year because you have no employment history to show during that time. You tell them just that .. that you took off some time to do [blank] could be vacation, write a novel, spend time with a sick friend, etc. It’s not your destiny in life to work a job until you’re 65 and then be allowed to retire.
You can take of time whenever you want. It’s your life. Granted, in certain fast paced jobs, things will change quickly and your skills could become outdated. It’s a good idea to tell interviewers that you were keeping up on your career by doing [blank] and that could be through volunteer work, self training, etc.
But even if you did nothing but enjoy yourself for that time off, that is fine too. Because now you cleared your head and are in a much better state of mind to know exactly what you want and are ready to hit the ground running at a new job. In my opinion, taking a year off is like giving your mind and body a complete tune-up and now you’re running at top efficiency, so employers should be leaping at the chance to hire you.
