When Should I Follow-up after a Job Interview

by admin on 5:39 pm

Hi Don,

Thank you for your tips relating to the Job interviews much appreciated. Only wish I had them before my interview last week, as I do get very nerves and don’t seem to answer the question fully or to there satisfaction.

I ‘m currently living in Northern Ireland,  last week had an interview for a secretarial job, have heard nothing back from the company should I wait a little longer or phone them and inquire what the situation is. Bearing in mind it took them 6 months to contact me for the interview.

Still on the job topic but not for N I.

I don’t know if you are in a position to advise me,  I’m extremely interested in both living and working in the U S A.  I have an aunt who lives in El Segundo CA whom I recently visited, I appreciate one has to apply for a Green Card or have a job offer in order to be accepted.  I would greatly appreciated any information that you would be willing to help me with.

Thank you kindly

Hi Moira,

I’m glad you are enjoying interview lessons.

During the interview, I like to ask “when do you plan on making decision?”  This way, I’ll know when to follow-up with them without pressuring them.  If they say within 2 weeks, then I’ll wait 2-3 weeks before I follow-up.

But if it’s only been a week, you might want to wait a few more days and then follow-up with a phone call.  I personally like to follow-up with a phone call on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday around 9:00 AM.  I think you have the best chance of catching them at their desk at these times.  Never follow-up on Monday or Friday.  Monday is too busy and Friday is to relaxed and they are thinking about the weekend and visiting their favorite pub.

I really can’t advise you on moving to the U.S.  But I can say it’s a great place with endless opportunity.  California is the most populated state in the U.S. with the longest traffic jams anywhere.  Personally, I like California and have been there a few times, though it’s too crowded for me to live, but there is probably more opportunity there than anywhere else, but more competition, too.  But if you have family there, it could be a great place to start.

Best of luck to you and Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Don
